biografia

Superelvis was born in Barcelona in 1986 formed by Anki Toner (voice, harmonica, lyrics), Meteo Giráldez (guitar, accordion, bass, piano, viola and percussion) and Raimon Aymerich (piano, guitar, bass, melodica, percussion and drums). The reinterpretation of well-known tunes, either inserting more or less recognizable excerpts in their own compositions or simply reinventing the songs (just like they have done with the band's name) is just a part of their strictly personal and unconventional approach to music (which, lacking of a better definition, was described by Superelvis as Resistance Emotional Music).
In 1991 is published their first album and the band received the Biennal De Joves Creadors award, by the Barcelona City Council. In 1995 Alfredo Costa Monteiro (accordion, piano, guitar and bass) comes to the band. The album "Happiness Is Stupid" was elected Best Spanish Album Of The Year 1996 by prestigious magazine Rock de Lux.
In 1998 Superelvis quit Por Caridad Producciones and found their own label Hazard Records. Also in this year the founder member and singer Anki Toner left the band. In 99 they release "What About Beauty?", a collection of songs recorded as a quartet in spring of 1998. These are the last Anki Toner's recordings with Superelvis. Today Superelvis is an instrumental trio of improvised music.
Anki Toner has a new project with Jaime Munárriz & Javier Piñango (Destroy Mercedes, Druhb) called Anki Toner & The Record Collectors Orchestra (with the collaboration of Nuara, vocalist who works in the past with Superelvis and Destroy Mercedes).

HURT FOREVER

Something went wrong
And it did hurt forever
We cannot say it is not true
I cannot say it is not true
All that was wrong
Is gonna hurt forever
Something went wrong
It's gonna hurt forever

A PLACE

There's a place somewhere
Where all we broke
Is not broken
And all we spoke
Remains unspoken
There's a place somewhere
Where all we forgot
Was never forgotten
Time may be a single line
But there's a place
Where we never did
What shouldn't have done

CONFESSION

Here I stand
with my sex in my hand
To confess
That you are not
The only one
I'm thinking of

DAY I DIE

The day I die
I wonder whose name I will cry

HOPE

There is a time to hurt
And a time to cry
When everything is over, babe
I may be glad to be alive
A time to hurt
And a time to die
I just hope that someday
I will be glad to be alive

HAPPINESS IS STUPID

When we think about it
No much is left around
Except
repetition,
variation,
contradiction,
Happiness is stupid

CONFUSION

And then one day you realize
It is not sex but desire
That rules the world

"Minimaliste, intismiste, répétitive, la musique de Superelvis devient quoi qu'il en soit vite hypnotisante.../... Ni Presley, ni Costello, cet Elvis-là mérite son titre de Super anti-héros." (Valérie Coroller - ROCK & FOLK)

"The band has completely stripped down classic songs by such acts as The Beatles, Lightnin' Hopkins, Neil Young, Elvis Costello and Elvis Presley. According to band leader Anki Toner, 'they are not versions but restructured forms'. " (Howell Llewellyn - BILLBOARD)
