Javier Colis was born in Logroño, La Rioja, but he is completely stablished in Madrid. He has a prolific career as a compositor, guitarist and founder of so important avant-garde bands such as Vamos A Morir, Demonios Tus Ojos or Mil Dolores Pequeños. His first compositions, in the mid-80's, were part of his works in the fields of the video-art. In this sense, it is very remarkable his video "Proceso/Adagio/Situación" (1987), which -apart form winning some important national prizes and having been selected for "Muestras" in Ars Electronica (Linz)- took part in "La Imagen Sublime", an anthology of Spanish video-art cellebrated in the Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, Madrid. Colis has composed music for other artist's videos, such as Paco Utray, Javier Lamadrid and Manuel Saiz, who he has worked with in many shared works in the field of video-installation. This collaboration is still permanent since Saiz has designed all the covers of each and every album of Mil Dolores Pequeños.
In 1986, Javier Colis, together with his brother Nacho Colis (drums) and the painter and sculptor Julio Jara (voice), created Vamos A Morir. Soon after, Colis brothers formed Demonios Tus Ojos, together with Javier Corcobado and Javier Almendral, so both groups coexisted until the dissapearance of the latter in 1989. After two albums that were respectively published in 1990 and 1992, Vamos A Morir was dissolved in the late 1992, coinciding their dissapearance with the birth of a new musical project created by Javier Colis: Mil Dolores Pequeños, a band that is currently in active, whose core is formed by Colis and Ajo (who are a couple since 1987) and whose solid trajectory includes 4 albums to date.
Javier Colis is also the founder, together with Ajo and Javier Piñango, of Por Caridad Producciones, a label that was born in 1992 as a result of a division in the company Triquinoise. During the last years, Colis has also collaborated in the recordings of other groups such as Destroy Mercedes, Superelvis or Clónicos, in addition to his participation in some live performances of the group of free improvisation Scorecrackers, formed by Pedro López and Markus Breuss. With this last one, who is an habitual collaborator on Mil Dolores Pequeños since 1996, Colis also composed the piece "Cava Alta 10, 3ºA" for Radio 2's programme "Rivers and Bridges".
In 1997, Javier Colis published what has been his unique solitary album till date, "Luna de Agosto", a multi-directional, intuitive, cerebral and experimnetal rock album.

GOING HOME

Nothing is real
nothing is near
when I want to go home
going home
Soul is a joke
body?, I don't feel it
when I want to go home
going home
Can you give me one way to go home?
Playing is my job
saying is my work
but I can't go home
going home
Soul is a joke
nothing is near
when I want to go home
going home
Can you give me one way to go home?
have you one way to go back home?

A NEW CHANCE

Another morning
a new chance to play
another morning
a brand new chance to die
another morning
a new place in time
another morning
beautiful morning

LUNA DE AGOSTO

Luna de Agosto
hola!
estrella de Agosto
brilla!
lobo de Agosto
aulla!
noche de Agosto

PENDULUM

One is born hanging from a foot
from the balls or anyother extremity
and there keeps on moving
like a pendulum
year after year
the whole time
Till cracks the head open
and that is it, and that is all

WAVING

Waving at the blooming autumn
and the shirt full of dead hairs
Waving at the children that scream
and break down like anything else

GREETINGS

Greetings here and now
Before and after...
-Don't care-
If I aspire doesn't matter
If I inspire does not matter
If I expire doesn't matter

FEAR

Deep fear
of everything
Fear all around
afraid to live
as much as to die
Frightened of silence
Fear to tell
Fear all around
afraid to know
afraid of ignorance
Fear
Fear all around

"Mr.Colis' fingers have written, by means of chords, riffs and solos, some of the most memorable pages of this country's independent music." (Pablo Gill - RUTA 66)

"Javier Colis' trajectory has exposed one of the most versatile, poisonous and daring guitarists in 'the bull's skin'." (Luis Clemente - EL GIRALDILLO-SEVILLA)

"In order to vindicate a proper personality, one has to face up to his influences, and Colis has not only done it, he has also became reaffirmed with the effort, with a guitar that subtly blends avant-garde with the most primitive blues-rock and with an amazing variety of compositions." (X.G.T. - VOICE)

"Colis draws precise and emphatic lines that go beyond the mere riff and that do not resign themselves to be just melodic sketches: unexpected variations are continually added, symptoms of fierce distortion, unusual effects and sharp phrases that rule everything. In conclusion: innovatory rock that grafts its roots with solidity in the past to look at the close future and that does not need any prefix (i.e. post) to show its originality." (Javier Blánquez - ROCK DE LUX)

"It is experimental music, but, at the same time, it is not an unattainable product for themes with recognisable parts.../... Besides, it is carried out by an excellent guitarist." (Rafa Cervera - EL PAIS DE LAS TENTACIONES)

"It is in the instrumental section -being the main protagonists Javier Colis, in the guitar and sequences, and his brother Nacho, a fibrous and audacious drummer- where it resides the dark energy of a music whose precision does not impede it to sow the uncertainty wherever it goes by." (Jaime Gonzalo - RUTA 66)

"One of the guitarists with most personality in this country, from the times of Demonios Tus Ojos, to the ones of Mil Dolores Pequeños, passing through Vamos A Morir." (Enrique Peñas - MONDO SONORO)

"The perfect example of this crossroads is the repetitive 'She's Another Season'. In this song, a martial and oppressive rhythm, an obsessive guitar riff, a phrenopathic voice and a highly cosmic synthesiser bathing live together. The result is overwhelming and disturbing. Visceral, of great pains." (MADRID NETROPOLIS)

"Summarising, a record in which Javier Colis stands out as a fierce guitarist with class. A record that does not leave you indifferent." (Jose Ignacio Foronda - LA RIOJA)

" 'Intro-En la Caverna' suddenly places us in a world in which each beating of those strings is worthier than a thousand words. An energetic, original and stimulating record for those who still believe in the electric guitar." (Manuel L. Contreras - VºBº - VALENCIA)

"Omnipresent protagonist of this record, the guitar of Javier Colis was also the protagonist of the horror films of Demonios Tus Ojos, the black series of Vamos A Morir and it is being also the main character in the nouvelle vague pop of Mil Dolores Pequeños. This is a concept record, a monument for a guitar that uses barbed wire instead of strings." (Pau March - AB)

"His morbid idea about musical entertainment. Rock'n'roll Colis." (Breogán - O CORREO GALEGO)

"It does not only hurts, it also howls. Riffs, extreme distortions, impossible plucks, convulsions, electrocutions..." (Antonio Cancho - CALVIVA)
