Luis Rozalén, a very active member of the Spanish techno scene -acting as a Dj, musician and journalist- has produced a lot of electronic stuff since the eighties in bands as Ballet Mecánico till the present under the name of Hd Substance, strongly influenced by the likes of Kenny Larkin, Kraftwerk or Depeche Mode. He has released music in companies such as Geometrik, Run´n´Dance, Boozo, Stereophonic Elefant Dance Recordings... He´s also Dj´ed in Marseille, Portugal or the mythical Blue Note Club in London.
He begins to be interested in music when he discovers The Ramones' "End Of The Century" in his teen years. Then he starts playing drums with several pop band, but the discovery of Depeche Mode's music open his eyes and starts Ballet Mecánico, a techno pop band that would later flirt with EBM and acid house. They supported Information Society in a gig in Madrid, and they managed to release several records, some of them in foreign companies, before splitting up. Then Luis creates Hd Substance, walking his first steps in the fields of intelligent techno, but after attending Kenny Larkin's show in Sonar Festival he decides to move towards house, and his eclecticism will be one of the most distinctive features in Hd Substance's music from then on.
In 1997 Hd Substance released his first album in Stereophonic Elefant Dance Recordings, "Eleven". In 1998 he released a 12" with a new song, remixes of "Mushrooms", an advance of what will be his new album ("Cancer Pop"), released in May 1999. His collaboration with Prozack under the alias of Discodé is also available.
Hd Substance is now formed by Luis and his brother Mario, and their live shows are considered one of the current best electronic live acts in Spain.
In 2001 Hd Substance edit the first album of the project Milinko: "A New Life" (Satanic Charme).
