Electronic group from Madrid composed by Jaime Munárriz and Javier Piñango, both with a large and important musical trajectory behind them. The former played bass at the beginning of the 80's in Monaguillosh. Later, he started to work as producer (he produced the first Spanish hip-hop groups). He also worked in plastic arts. At the end of the 80's, he joined Cerdos, where he coincided with Piñango, known then as a musical critique. In 1992, Piñango joined Mil Dolores Pequeños, recording three LPs with them. In 1998, he left the group to centralise his energy in a new project, Destroy Mercedes. This group was born with the aim of blending such different elements as the rock of the 70's, psychedelics and electronic experimentation. This related them, spiritually, to groups such as Suicide, Residents, Devo and all the krautrock's staff, with occasional but strong influences of Syd Barrett or Magazine. Although in the beginning it was a laboratory project, Destroy Mercedes, with the promotion of their first album, felt peckish of live performances and they make occasional live performances accompanied by Esther Berdion's projections.
In 1997 is published their second album "Volumen Dos" and during next year D.M. plays live this new material. 1999 is a transitional year until today' sound in their new project called Druhb, in parallel to Destroy Mercedes. Their first album with this new band (Druhb) is "Cone Of Silence" (published by Geometrik Records): cold sounds, ambients landscapes (next to Brian Eno), electronic minimalism and evolutive waves.
In 2001 is published a new album, available only in MP3 format, edited by Experimentaclub and Vitaminic, with the title of "New Orbit New Love ".
Apart from Druhb and future Destroy Mercedes' works, this duo are working with Anki Toner (Superelvis) in other new musical project: Anki Toner & The Record Collectors Orchestra.

RAINBOW RACE

See the rainbow race?
How beautiful

See the rainbow race?
It goes all over your face
It’s a magic wand
Floating over the land
Scape
Smiling to your face
Like the colours of your place
Or the stars and the moon
That float
Like boats in the space
The stars that hide away
And say
See the rainbow race?
See the rainbow race
From outer space
So the people come
And together they say:
How beautiful!
How beautiful; you bet
That that’s what they say
And you know it’s okay
So you go with them:
See the rainbow race?
How beautiful!

FRANKIE X

Frankie lives in the north pole
He doesn’t believe in the real world
He lies there, waiting for a sea-whale
He doesn’t know where to look around

Frankie is the master of the flying pans
He rests over the fire hill
He believes in another world
Where the ice doesn’t melt on your hands

Frankie wants to get you higher
Frankie want’s to light your fire

Lillies growning on the roof
Water springing silky smooth

"A mutant rock'n'roll, intoxicated with sequencers, programmed rhythms and greasy mirrorballs that fade up with mud balloons.../... Machines and instruments, dance and rock, body and soul, fish and flesh.../... Nearest to Ween and Suicide's child than to the one of Masters At Work and Autechre." (Pau March - FLORIDA DANCE MAGAZINE).

"Songs as they are proper! Something that the onanist world of experimental music lacks of.../... How would a theme of Captain Beefheart sound in the hands of a formation composed by members of Sigue Sigue Sputnik and The Revillos? And Syd Barret floating in the space looking for Major Tom? You will find the answer in "Piñango & Munárriz Experience" second edition." (Udo Látex - SELF).

"Destroy Mercedes create, they don't produce. They create scenes of ethnic psychedelics with incursions in krautrock; they turn The Residents into a band of hard-techno; they make Beck sounding in dance clubs and they even dare to play with hip-hop, funky or ambient. And the best of all is that the group still sounds coherent". (Óscar Castaño - MADRID SONORO).

"Chained mutations of the most basic and primary popular music, the one that attacks to the senses, turning itself into a cyst and placing in the worst side of your brain. Destroy Mercedes are a sick cell damaged by a virus disease similar to the one incubated by Suicide, Ween or Esplendor Geométrico: rock'n'roll's naughty side. Long life!". (MADRID NETRÓPOLIS).

"Destroy Mercedes are, above all, a very personal and innovator group, a real one.../... Rhythms and melodies impregnated of strength and vitality." (FUTURE MUSIC).

"Múnarriz and Piñango have turned again the risk into an habit: their project looks like a sonorous mosaic, as randomiser as coherent, which glosses synthetic, analogical and digital artifices, electronic percussion, abstract beats and psychedelics." (EL CORREO - BILBAO).

"Operating theatres, night life. Cronemberg, Lynch... their music seems to be an inspiring source of images." (Chema R. Pascual - AJOBLANCO).

"They have built an electronic laboratory for talking to us in the brain's language, as if manipulated nerve cells were released from the CD. Galactic psychedelics, inventions that remind us of The Residents and the first Kraftwerk; galactic sensations." (Pep Blay - AVUI).

"Múnarriz and Piñango are able to match Syd Barret with The Residents; to turn 70's space rock into disco music; to blend samplers and analogical synthesizers with guitars and sitars." (Gerardo Sanz - ROCK DE LUX).

"They are pop raised to its most Martian potency.../... Destroy Mercedes have elaborated an electronic treaty of hypnotism from some more or less modern instruments and some other belonging to techno's Jurassic era. In all, and hour and a bit of a very recommendable delirious." (Ramón Llubiá - EL VÍBORA).

"Something from the space and very intoxicating.../... A cosmic and fizzy record that seems to have been conceived in a New York with no future. Urbanism of Marquee Moon; of Ubu as the protagonist of 2001; of diabolical sequences and psychophonies; of utopic sequences of 1984; of the Germany of Can, Neu!, Faust and so on and of Bowie's Berlin." (Elena Cabrera - SPIRAL).

"The same as PIL made with Neu!, that is exactly what Destroy Mercedes make with space-rock-or-whatever-it-is, which swings from Tangerine Dreams or The Residents to Magma.../... The best psychedelic record; the best Spanish space music. Astral." (Luis Clemente - EL GIRALDILLO - SEVILLA).

"Space themes with a narcotic sound of a deliberate slow consumption." (Carlos Marcos - GUIA DEL OCIO - MADRID).

"An intimate apotheosis where the electronics sets itself up as a kind of expression, and, at the same time, as a matter of investigation.../... Destroy Mercedes' universe requires an extra-effort to be penetrated in, being a fact that, after the insistence, a rich reward is waiting for us." (José Boix - RUTA 66).
